Do I need a degree to be a screenwriter?

Start Writing
There is a lot to learn, but you can learn that along the way. The most important thing is to begin a daily writing practice. In my article, How to start a screenwriting career, I talk about some of the initial steps you can take to learn screenwriting and in my article, How I started screenwriting, I talk about how I got started screenwriting.
If you decide to go to school to study screenwriting, I would highly recommend writing a short film script that you can shoot with your friends in school.
Filmmaking school and college can offer excellent networking opportunities. As with most things, the more you put into it, the more you can get out of it.
There are plenty of tools you can learn if you decide to pursue a degree in screenwriting. But regardless of whether or not you pursue a degree, there’s no guarantee that you will see your scripts go into production or that you will be hired for a screenwriting job.
