Process Goals

How to keep moving forward when there’s a million things to do

When you’re writing scripts and making films on a low to no budget; when you’re investing your time to make work; and when you’re putting every spare dollar into your passion for making art, rewards are often elusive to non-existent. You put in six months to make a short film and after a hit or miss festival run, you put the film out on Vimeo or YouTube and you rack up fifty or sixty views.

This year I’m going to try to spend more energy focusing on the process.

For me, that’s writing scripts, editing films I’ve already produced, and prepping for the next film project.

My goals are pretty modest:

— write 10 minutes a day

— edit a produced film for 10 minutes a day

— meditate for 10 minutes a day

— read for 10 minutes a day

When I look at my task list, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. My to do list is a page long right now.

After the day job and having some dinner, it can be difficult to do anything. I’ve found that if I tell myself that I’m going to write one page, or I’m going to open a video editing project, that’s enough for me to get over the initial resistance. If I can get started…
