We all have our own reasons

The only reason to make creative work is because you love it. You enjoy the work itself. The art we create can change people’s lives, but the only way you can stay with it is because you appreciate the process.

I’ve written half a dozen screenplays. I’ve written hundreds of poems, scores of short stories, a couple novels, and more than a few plays.

I’ve had the opportunity to see my work in print, performed on Chicago stages, and on the screen.

I’ve gone through dry spells and burnout. I’ve had times where the distractions of life have taken over and I’ve ignored my responsibilities, but through it all, there comes a point where I am sitting somewhere with pen and paper.

Writing and making creative work is a learning process. Throughout my creative career, I try to distribute my work. I find a way to share my work. When I was younger, I would go to poetry open mics and I would submit my work to zines and literary magazines. Then I got involved in theater and now I share my short films online and through social media.

I admit I wish I had a bigger audience, but so do the thousands and millions of other creatives. Because of the distribution platforms available to us, everyone can ship…
